Sierra Leone U-20 Head to Mali for WAFU A Tournament

Sierra Leone’s Under-20 football team has set off for Mali to take part in the WAFU Zone A U-20 Tournament, with the aim of qualifying for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Ghana.

This tournament presents a vital opportunity for the young squad to build on their recent achievements in youth football.

The Shooting Stars will kick off their campaign against Guinea-Bissau on October 16, followed by a match against Mauritania on October 19, before facing a tougher challenge against Senegal.

All matches in Groups A and B will be held at Stade Mamadou KONATE in Mali. The Shooting Stars will be looking to draw inspiration from their impressive run to the quarter-finals at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, a remarkable feat that has heightened expectations for the nation’s upcoming talent.

As they take on this tournament in Mali, the team faces another test to gauge their development, striving to position themselves among the leading teams in the sub-region.

With a chance to secure a place at the 2027 continental championship, the Shooting Stars are eager to transform their ambitions into results on the field, hoping for another shot at the U-20 AFCON.

In the second week of the Lebanese top-tier league, Michael scored as Nejmeh surged ahead 3-1, but the visitors fought back, leveling the score with two goals from Plamedi Lukasi in the 70th and 76th minutes.

FC Kallon, Debutants Bamoi Queens Shine in 21-Goal WPL Opener

The 2026/27 Marampa Mines Women’s Premier League opened with an attacking flourish on October 10 and 11, as FC Kallon Female and debutants Bamoi Queens FC recorded emphatic victories to headline an opening weekend that produced 21 goals across six venues nationwide.

FC Kallon Female registered the weekend’s biggest win, thrashing Vem Buck FC 5-0 on Saturday, October 10, with Juliet Brima scoring a hat-trick and Adama Kargbo adding a brace.

On the other hand debutants Bamoi Queens FC also announced their arrival in the top flight in style, defeating Rising Queens FC 4-0 at the Port Loko Field to secure three points in their first outing of the campaign.

Sunday’s fixtures delivered more competitive encounters, with Kahunla Queens FC and Ram Kamara FC playing out a 1-1 draw, Koya Queens FC and Patricia Umu Strikers FC of Kambia District shared four goals in a 2-2 stalemate in Port Loko, while Jonathan’s Child Care (JCC) FC and Sierra Leone Police FC also settled for a 2-2 draw at the Bo Coronation Field.

At Wusum Stadium in Makeni, defending champions Mogbwemo Queens FC began their title defense with a 2-0 away victory over Mena Queens FC on Sunday, completing the opening round of this season’s league fixtures.

The results leave FC Kallon Female and Bamoi Queens FC in the top two positions, with Mogbwemo Queens FC third, as all three sides collected three points and are separated by goal difference.

At the other end of the standings, Vem Buck FC and Rising Queens FC occupy the bottom positions following their heavy defeats.

The opening round of this season’s race has set the tone for another competitive season in the Sierra Leone women’s elite league, which features 12 teams competing for national honours while providing a platform for the development and visibility of women’s football across the country.

As the second round of matches gain momentum, attention will turn to whether FC Kallon Female and Bamoi Queens FC can maintain their winning momentum and whether the defending champions can build on their opening-day success.

Meanwhile, the Marampa Mines Women’s Premier League continues next weekend, with all six matches scheduled to kick off at 10:45 a.m.

Star Sport Academy Name Squad for CAF Champions League Doubleheader

Star Sport Academy has touched down in Liberia with a 25-man squad as they gear up for the eagerly awaited CAF Champions League Second Preliminary doubleheader.

This crucial competition kicks off with the first leg on October 17 at the SDK Stadium in Liberia before they travel to RS Berkane for the return leg, hoping to make history. 

The team has been engaging in rigorous training sessions aimed at enhancing their performance and team synergy, ensuring they are ready to put on a strong show in this important matchup.

Head coach Amidu Karim has arranged a test match against FC Fassell, a prominent Liberian team.

In 2014, FC Fassell clinched the Liberian Cup, and they secured their first domestic league title in the Liberian First Division during the 2024-2025 season.

Augustus Kargbo Makes Full Blackburn Rovers Return

Sierra Leone international Augustus Kargbo returned to full fitness as Rovers won 2-1 against Cardiff City at Ewood Park. This victory marks their third match without a loss.

Kargbo made his first team appearance since October 2025 and was substituted in the 74th minute after a long injury recovery.

Andri Gudjohnsen opened the scoring with a shot past Nathan Trott and made it five goals for the season. Todd Cantwell then added a second goal before halftime with a left-footed shot that trickled into the net.

In the second half, Callum Robinson scored early for Cardiff, adding pressure to the match. Despite some nervous moments, Rovers continued to look for more goals, with Trott making several key saves.

Coach Tony Mowbray made one change to the lineup, bringing in Gudjohnsen for Tom Atcheson. Although Cardiff had the ball early, Rovers found their rhythm and took the lead. After winning the ball, Cantwell assisted Gudjohnsen for the opener.

Cardiff nearly equalised soon after, but Rovers doubled their lead with Cantwell’s goal before halftime. Rovers searched for a third goal, but Afolayan’s shot went wide.

Cardiff responded with Robinson’s goal to make it 2-1. Rovers looked for an immediate reply, but McLoughlin’s header missed the target. Fevrier came on as a substitute and saw a couple of attempts saved.

Rovers created more chances, but Cardiff’s Moylan saw a shot blocked. In added time, Trott made a vital save from Cantwell to deny a clinching goal. Rovers held on for a well-deserved win.
