Malawian Defender Jubril Okedina signs for Barnsley

Barnsley has signed Jubril Okedina, a 25-year-old Malawian defender, on a one-year deal with an option for another year.

He joins the team immediately after playing for Bohemian FC in the League of Ireland and has over 100 appearances with Cambridge United, mostly in Sky Bet League One.

Okedina brings important defensive skills as the EFL season starts. He has played 138 times for Cambridge and began his career at Tottenham Hotspur.

After signing, Okedina said he knows League One well and wants to use his experience to help the team succeed.

Head Coach Daniel Stendel said he is happy to welcome Okedina to strengthen the defence and that he has fit in quickly after training with the team.

Malian International midfielder Yves Bissouma to join Ajax

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma is close to joining Ajax on a deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder is a free agent after leaving Spurs and is set to return to football in the Netherlands.

Bissouma has agreed to a deal that runs until the end of the season, with an option to extend for another year.

He is currently in Amsterdam to finalise his move to Ajax. Bissouma joined Tottenham in 2022 and played 111 games for the team after moving from Brighton.

In August 2025, Spurs manager Thomas Frank did not include Bissouma in the squad for a UEFA Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain due to his repeated lateness.

In his final season at Tottenham, Bissouma made 11 appearances, all in the Premier League, as the team finished 17th for the second year in a row.

Alie Ramadan Kabia Joins Vålerenga

Star Sport Academy has confirmed that key player and one of their exceptional young talent, Alie Ramadan Kabia, has officially joined Norwegian club Vålerenga Fotball Elite, competing in the Norwegian top League.

The 18-year-old has been outstanding throughout his time with Star Sport Academy and has now signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.

“We are incredibly proud of Alie and this remarkable achievement. This is another exciting step in his football journey, and we do not doubt that he will continue to shine on the big stage.”

Kabia, who will train with the A-team, is ready to play for Vålerenga as soon as the work permit is approved.

DR Congo’s Jules Ahoka signs for Sunderland from Royal Antwerp

Sunderland has signed DR Congo midfielder Jules Ahoka from Belgian club Royal Antwerp on a long-term contract. 

Ahoka, 20, is a DR Congo youth international and has agreed to a long-term contract with the club.

“I am very happy and proud to join Sunderland,” said Ajoka, who played in both of Antwerp’s league games this season.

“It is a big club with great ambitions, and I am excited to be here. I want to work hard, learn from my teammates and the staff, and keep improving as a player. I will give everything for the club and can’t wait to get started.”

Ahoka is Sunderland’s third summer signing, joining Belgian left-back Thomas Meunier and French right-back Dayann Methalie.

“Jules is a player we have been watching closely, and he has shown good qualities for his age,” said Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi. “He has great potential, and we believe Sunderland is the right place for him to grow.”

Mohamed Salah opens Trabzonspor account with a brace

Mohamed Salah netted two goals in his initial Turkish Super Lig match for Trabzonspor, nearly securing a hat-trick, as they triumphed over Istanbul Basaksehir.

The 34-year-old forward from Egypt departed Liverpool after nine years, where he tallied 257 goals, on a free transfer this summer.

Initially anticipated to sign with a club in Saudi Arabia, he chose to join the Turkish outfit on a two-year contract, earning £280,000 weekly.

This match marked his third outing for Trabzonspor; he previously came off the bench against Kasimpasa last weekend and started in their Europa League play-off first-leg loss to Ferencvaros.

He found the net for his new team after intercepting a ball from the away goalkeeper, Muhammed Sengezer, before scoring through a deflection off the post.

After Eldor Shomurodov equalized from the penalty spot, Salah reclaimed the lead for his team with a first-time shot from 10 yards.

The seasoned player was issued a yellow card for diving when he fell in the box with 11 minutes remaining.

He believed he had completed his hat-trick in injury time by scoring into an empty net from 45 yards, but was flagged for offside.
