CAS Rejects Bangura Appeal, Backs SLFA Ethics Board Decision

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed an appeal filed by Aminata Bangura against a decision of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Ethics Board, upholding the ruling issued on 19 July 2025.

According to a statement released by the SLFA on Monday, the CAS issued its arbitral award on 5 October 2026 in the case CAS 2025/A/11613 Aminata Bangura v. Sierra Leone Football Association.

It could be recalled that the road to SLFA’s August 2025 election was fraught with difficulties. Originally slow and erratic, the election process followed the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) awarding temporary clearance to female candidate Ms Aminata Bangura on July 31.

Today’s latest is that the CAS panel upheld the SLFA Ethics Board’s decision and dismissed Bangura’s appeal in its entirety.

The SLFA’s release further stated that the tribunal also ordered the appellant to bear the costs of the arbitration and directed Bangura to pay CHF 3,000 to the SLFA as a contribution towards the association’s legal costs and expenses.

“Welcoming the decision, the SLFA said the CAS award confirms the decisions taken by its judicial bodies and highlights the importance of integrity, transparency and compliance in football administration.

The association said it remains committed to promoting good governance and accountability in the management of football in Sierra Leone.”

The CAS ruling brings the appeal process before the international sports arbitration body to a close, with the SLFA’s Ethics Board decision remaining in force.
